The Role of Indonesian Media in Palestine’s Effort to Achieve True Independence
Jakarta, 7 November 2025
Indonesia’s press has long positioned itself as a moral constituency within the nation’s foreign policy discourse, particularly on the Palestinian question. As a democracy with a vibrant and plural media ecosystem—spanning legacy newsrooms, public service broadcasting, and digital-native outlets—Indonesian media shape how the public interprets international events, humanitarian crises, and diplomacy. This influence is exercised not only through agenda-setting and framing, but also through watchdog functions, solution-oriented journalism, and transnational solidarity reporting.
Goals of the Seminar
- Clarify Ethical and Legal Standards for reporting on Palestine using international humanitarian law, conflict-sensitive journalism.
- Strengthen Verification Capacities (OSINT, geolocation, source triangulation) to counter mis/disinformation.
- Map Media–Diplomacy Interfaces between newsroom narratives, public opinion, and Indonesia’s foreign policy.
- Develop Practical Guidelines for sustained context-rich coverage beyond episodic crisis reporting.
- Foster Networks among Indonesian media, universities, NGOs, and fact-checking consortia for ongoing collaboration.
